Ten Interview Questions for Phanessia Harrell, “The Next Big Thing” Blog Hop.

Q: What is the working title of your book?

Fallen leaves, which will have a Generation 2 series. I’m also finishing up, Petals Upon The Heart.

Q: Where did the idea come from for the book?

With Fallen Leaves, it was the awakening of losing many of my loved ones, realizing how precious the moments with family and dear friends are. In this life, we’re all trying to get it right and live life to the fullest. My second, which is a work in progress, Petals Upon The Heart, came about as a result of loving the simple pleasures of life and being intrigued with certain things about country life. I remember being enthralled with my grandmother telling stories about the neighborly ways of living in the countryside.

Q: What genre does your book fall under?

For Fallen Leaves, I would say Fiction/Family Saga, and for Petal Upon The Heart- Fiction/Mainstream

Q: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

For my main character, Jaden Hill, the handsome Morris Chestnut; he seems to have that same sweet charm. For his love interest, the beautiful Halle Berry would transform into Mercel as they both are adorable women. Jaden’s fraternal twin, Chassie- who is somewhat feisty, Vivica Fox. I’ll just say one more; Jaden’s best friend, who’s like a brother, Jeff Riggers, would be esteemed with the handsome actor, Brad Pitt.

Q: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Fallen Leaves-Most of us dream of a fairytale life, no worries no problems as we encounter the day to day pleasantries mixed with the indulgence of family and friends, however, overshadowed, they are then tainted with unpleasant and uncomfortable settings that within time, befall upon us all.

Petals Upon The Heart- Thelma Louise Cummings is taking a long train ride, traveling from the countryside drinking in its freedom and celebrating the victories of her past life as she reminisces, allowing the truth of each vision to send her swirling back within the tender yet treacherous, good yet evil, blind yet reviling life she survived, being smothered within the pathways of a small town called, Shallow Creek.

Q: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

That’s a question I’m still debating. I’m giving myself two weeks to make a final decision on self-publishing or sending them out to agents, or maybe doing one self-publish, and send out the other.

Q: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Around four to five months on Fallen Leaves, and around four months for Petals Upon The Heart.

Q: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I can’t say that within my readings I’ve found a story quite like Fallen leaves or Petals Upon The Heart; but you all will have to read them to prove me wrong. J

Q: Who or What inspired you to write this book?

All my writings are heart driven…. I feel it’s the grace and gift of the Most High, along with the love and nurturing from my Mom, Dad, and family that contoured my life and made it possible for me to begin reaching within my inner-self. In turn, they are all my inspirations, inspiring me to do what I do.

Q: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

First of all, my novel, Fallen Leaves, starts with the narration of Jaden Hill, which is a man; and being a woman, I felt, to make Jaden the lovable, kind, and caring man I wanted him to be, I went with the feelings of what most of us women need and want a man to acquire when he’s pursuing us, trying to capture our hearts. I also went with what I’ve seen and experienced in having examples of good men in my life.
